You hear all about going green but you may wonder why you should do it. It may seem like a pain to set up a second trash can to collect plastic cups. It may not be easy to use a reusable plastic water bottle rather than the disposable ones. However, it is something you should do. You can actually benefit from it yourself.

How You Can Benefit

Depending on the type of environmentally friendly steps you take, you could see a significant improvement in your quality of life. It also feels good to do something that is good for the environment and for you. If you are still looking for ways to benefit from it, consider the following.

Going green can save you money. Reusing items saves money. You can save money on gas and fuel costs. You will cut the costs of almost everything you do.

Your health may improve. The more you get out to walk to the corner store or to ride your bike instead of drive that car, the better your health will be for it. Greener cleaners are safer on your respiratory system and your skin. Organic foods are a better source of nutrients.

You will save the earth with fewer chemicals getting into waterways and with fewer toxins depleting the ozone. You will not be using as many limited fossil fuels, either.

The question is, what are you doing to live a greener life? If you have yet to take on any of these changes, start with just one. Give yourself just enough push in the right direction. You will see just how beneficial it can be for you.

A collection of wires and satellite codes, maybe a little direct.tv in the break room, the small hums of technology: your office is a dedication to progress. All shelves are stuffed with gadgetry; all space is claimed to the precision of circuits. Business demands immediacy — and the value of electronics could never be denied.

It could, however, be turned off.

The world is changing. What once a plead for carbon and natural resources has been redefined. The masses are clamoring for protection, are trying to shift all efforts toward environmentalism. The process has not been an easy one, but it has been persistent — and companies are now having to offer their own forms of support.

Accomplishing such support seems problematic, however.

It doesn’t have to be.

The simple act of turning off all electronic equipment while they are not in use can have immediate effects. Computers and similar products generate carbon — which is harmful to both the environment and individuals. Allowing these items to power down during the day will reduce emission rates by over 30 percent (as well as eliminate excess energy, which will help to lessen the strain on natural resources). And choosing to turn off all equipment for the entire night will ensure a 50 percent decrease of waste.

These numbers are impressive and shouldn’t be refused. By simply pressing a button, individuals can help to generate clean air and undo the cycle of electric dependency. The rewards of this are many and must be embraced.

Environmentalism is not a challenging process. Companies can instead apply it with ease.

The advantages of conservancy might not be instantly seen, but they do exist.

Everyone Needs to Do More

Conserving doesn’t mean you need to give up everything that you like. Running water is great, the Jersey Shore is fine television, and eating Twinkies is the next best thing to heaven. But when you look at the world around you, you can see how conserving as much as you can isn’t a bad idea. After all, you know that natural resources can only last so long. Does it have to be a pain to support the environment Not at all. And you don’t need to be a forest steward either.

Conserve for the Future Generations

When you don’t use up resources today, they will still be there tomorrow for future generations. That’s really all there is to it. So, you might want to cut back on the things which are using up the natural resources:

Turn off the water when you’re brushing your teeth.

Don’t take longer than a 10 minute shower.

Avoid taking baths.

Only buy foods you will eat.

Use a compost pile to create new soil and to not just dump out old foods.

Try to reuse as many items as you can.

Recycle.

Use recycled paper whenever possible or use the backsides of paper you’ve already used.

These are all simple things to do and, if you’ve noticed, they don’t as you to give up the way you life. You just need to make a few small changes to ensure you’re helping in small ways.

Community Building

When you take action to conserve the nature and the environment around you, you are helping your community as a whole. If you work with other people in your area, you can create a sense of community in this way. Working together helps to share the load of the work which needs to be done to conserve and to protect the environment, plus you can support each other as you begin to create a cleaner and healthier world.

Easy to Conserve

It’s really not all that difficult to conserve the resources you have around you. All it takes is being conscious of what you’re using and how you can use less. In fact, a lot of people can make a game of it and try to see who in their group can use the least amount of resources and win bragging rights. Of course, this generally means they don’t shower for a while, so…that is quite a sacrifice, even in the name of conservancy.

What is water conservation? This method of conservation helps to protect the waters of the world.

Why Water Matters

After being told for years by health experts that we need to drink as much water as possible, now we’re being told to conserve it? Yeesh, make up your mind, why don’t you? Water conservation is a bit more serious than just drinking seven glasses of water instead of eight. When you drink water, you are taking it from the water supply, but you eventually will, well, release it back into the world, via your toilet. The problem with water conservation in the world is that there are so many people, but the water supply is pretty much fixed. The water we have now will continue to be the water we have tomorrow.

The water we use is essential for:

Hydration – The human body can only survive three days without water.

Cleaning – Water is a natural solvent which helps to clean nearly anything.

Transportation – Humans use ships and animals use their fins or flippers to move from one point of water to another.

And this doesn’t even begin to touch how important water is for those animals that are living in the world too who need to drink water, bathe, etc.

Water matters and we need to find ways to conserve as much as possible so that we can always have what we need, when we need it. Though the world may not run out of water, it might begin to run out of clean water if we’re not more aware.

Changing Water Habits

In the smaller forest ecosystem, the value of water is seen clearly. When the waters dry up, animals die and then the plants die, and the forest dies. Just a few small things can help to stop this process from occurring:

Water should be used sparingly – When you need to use water for a shower or dishes, use as little as possible. Run a dishwasher which controls the amount of water in the cycle.

Avoid using bottled water – These bottles are filled with nothing more than tap water and they are wasteful.

Avoid using water for unnecessary tasks – Though some might think washing their car is necessary, most of the time, it’s more for vanity. Try to limit the water you use on your car, your lawn, and for outdoor activities.

While it might seem like your home is far away from the first where the water conservation matters, each drop of water you save helps to support the entire water ecosystem.

Learning why conservation matters might just motivate you to make those trendy green changes you’ve been considering.

Conserve Now for Later

It used to be that only shaggy haired hippies were the ones talking about conservancy. They used to chant and sway while keeping others away from the trees in the forest. Twenty years later, they are the ones who are chopping down the trees, though there are fewer trees now than there ever were before. What has happened to the idea of conserving the resources we have?

Right now, it seems we’re more interested in making money from the resources we have now than focusing on saving the resources in order to make money later. But perhaps that’s just what it looks like to some. For those who consider themselves to be forest stewards, it might be time for a new look at the way that resources are being used up. Let the facts speak for themselves. The fact remains that any resources which is limited in its supply is going to be used up eventually. Once it is used up, we can not use any more. That’s all there is to it. It’s like when your mother gives you one dollar. Once that dollar is used, you can’t use it again.

The Effects of Conservation

When you don’t use that paper cup instead of using a reusable cup, it’s true; you’re not going to see any instant benefit. While you might be filled with pride that you’re better than everyone else (greener than thou?), you’re not making an immediate difference in the environment. And for many, this is enough to get them to stop trying any sort of green action. However, there are long term effects of conservation which need to be kept in mind:

More natural resources for later

More time to develop renewable resources

Sustainable economy and production

Greener environment

Less pollution

Now, this doesn’t mean that we need to stop using resources – that’s where a lot of people get scared off of conservancy discussions. What is important is that people begin to conserve and to think about what they’re using. Maybe you don’t need to use paper cups all the time. Maybe you can use a travel mug. Maybe you can use cloth bags to get your groceries instead of plastic bags.

Conservancy is baby steps toward a better world in which we do have all of the resources we need in order to continue to compete in business.

Everybody knows the economy runs on consumption. While consuming is a good thing in moderation, it also tends to burn a lot of gas. Not only can this become very expensive, but burning lots of fossil fuels is also bad for the environment, to say nothing of being just a waste of resources. So it can be worth your time to save when you can on trips to any kind of store.

Naturally, great products like Apple Bottoms jeans will help you save on trips to the clothing stores. Unfortunately, that and line drying your wardrobe to keep it wearable for a long time are only two small steps. Most folks don’t buy clothes all that often, anyway. However, you can also buy your food in bulk, as well. Every time you don’t have to turn on your engine to go somewhere, you save yourself time, money and a little bit of pollution in the air. Every one of those three components is ultimately good for you and the world we all share.

However, you can even up that a little bit. While delivery companies tend to also burn plenty of fossil fuels, they have measures in place to be more fuel efficient, even with big trucks, than you would likely be able to pull off. This is why it can be even cheaper to order things directly, and it can even save on the amount of pollution put out from the vehicles involved. After all, stores don’t magically produce things. The less shipping points involved, the better it is for the environment and you.

For many people, being environmentally friendly is a natural part of life. For others, the word “recycle” still seems like a dirty word. Unfortunately, there are still many corporations who haven’t adopted green policies just yet. If you are a business owner, rest assured that being more environmentally friendly doesn’t have to hurt your bottom line. Take a look at four tips every business can do to go green.

1. Be more energy efficient. This could be as simple as encouraging all employees to power down their computers every night to as big as buying energy-efficient devices, like an energy efficient Mac Pro. Little changes like not leaving a computer running and turning off office lights can make a big difference.

2. Go paperless. Yes, even big corporations can go paperless. Ask your vendors to bill you electronically instead of through the mail. Don’t accept faxes and instead request information to be sent over email. Encourage your employees to go with direct deposit, instead of a paper check. There are many paperless options available.

3. Recycle. Don’t forget, it’s easy to set up recycling bins for paper and water bottles. Provide the bins and assign someone the task to take the bins to the recycle bin and you are miles ahead of other businesses out there.

4. Use web conferencing. Where possible, use a video conferencing system, like Skype, for out of the office meetings instead of driving there. Not only will you help save the environment, but you’ll save on fuel prices as well.

Image via CrunchBase

These four tips are simple and easy to implement, but will make a big difference to Mother Earth.

Corporate social responsibility is becoming an important area of focus for all businesses. As worries about the environment and humanity’s impact on the globe escalate, more and more consumers are starting to care about whether the products and services they use have a large carbon footprint. Companies that pay attention to their environmental credentials and effectively manage their eco practices are going to be the ones that thrive in the future. Below are four companies that are doing their best to help the environment.

Gazelle

This company has made its mark by recycling electronic goods that traditionally are difficult for consumers to dispose of in a safe and environmental way. The firm assesses the monetary value of products by using retailers such as eBay to estimate the second-hand price it would fetch for a sale, and then pays the owner that amount. If the product is no longer working, the company will still recycle it for free. Such commitment to environmentally-friendly practices is clearly paying off, as it generated a revenue in 2009 of $8.3 billion.

Mercury Solar Systems

This company provides a range of solar energy solutions to both companies and consumers looking to both save money on their utility bills and help protect the planet. Renewable energy schemes are one of the areas being championed by the government as an effective way of sustainably powering the planet. The firm has experienced growth of 870 percent over three years – a sure sign that its reliance on renewable solar energy is paying off.

Echosign

Echosign is one of the world’s leading providers of digital business solutions, including its specialized range of electronic signature software. As well as being dedicated to streamlining business practices, Echosign is also a clear believer in environmental sustainability. The company is moving towards being fully reliant on wind farms and harnessing wind energy, while it also plants a tree for every customer that is referred to it by existing users. What’s more, the company’s products themselves encourage environmental thinking. Electronic signatures cut down on the need for paper and physical properties that are unsustainable; in fact, Echosign’s average customer helps the environment by saving 12,000 pieces of paper a year when using the firm’s services.

Eco-Products

Eco-Products started life as many companies do – being operated by a father and son, who sold office supplies that had been recycled to companies in its local area. However, the desire of businesses to improve their eco credentials led to the firm growing and growing, until it boasted a revenue of $47.5 million in 2009. The company has now expanded into other areas and one of the products it is most proud of is the PLA (or polylactic acid) cup. The cups are made from plant resources that are completely renewable and are revolutionizing the beverage industry as customers are flocking to stores that use the eco-friendly products.

Although traditionally companies often saw battle lines drawn between green practices and profit margins, the lines are becoming continuously blurred as more and more firms begin to make money based on their environmentally-conscious standpoints. How will you environmentally update your business?

‘Reduce, reuse, and recycle’ is the phrase that was originally coined to encourage folks to become environmentally aware of the impact they have on the earth. While recycling has been the biggest push out of those three actions, it is still critical to pay attention to the other two.

The ‘reduce’ part of going green refers to reducing the amount of things that you consume. Reduce your use of items where possible. Reduce the amount of canned soda pop that you drink so that there are less aluminum cans going to the recycling center. Reduce the number of take-out meals you buy so that you have less Styrofoam containers to throw away. Instead of using paper towels, use cloth towels.

Reusing items that you have not only saves on the environment it also saves on the pocketbook. Refill your ink cartridge instead of buying new ones. Remake adult sized clothing into clothing for children. Buy rechargeable batteries so you have fewer batteries thrown away.

Recycle your technology. Each year, tons of technology ends up in a land fill. Cell phones, computers monitors, television sets, old VHS or DVD players could be sold through classified ads or yard sales. They could be donated to a local charity organization or schools. Many stores that sell electronics are willing to buy back your old electronics and dispose of them for you.

Make sure you have recycling bins in your home. Label them for plastics, aluminum, and paper. Make sure each family member uses the bins when throwing items away. Contact your city offices to see about recycling collection so that they can stop at your home to empty your bins.

You may be one of the millions of people who have an old car that isn’t needed any more. It may be because you’ve upgraded to a more energy-efficient car or you’ve moved to the big city and don’t have a need to drive anywhere. The only problem is deciding what to do with the old car that you don’t need any longer.

If you are purchasing a new car, then you’ve probably considered trading it in; the problem with this is that a dealership isn’t going to give you much for the car. You could sell the car yourself, but while this sounds like a good idea, it really isn’t. Older cars waste a lot of energy and emit harmful toxins into the atmosphere so when you sell your old car, you’re not helping the situation. Hence, the next logical solution is to recycle your car by donating it to charity.

There are some great benefits to this. First, you’ll be helping others with your donation. There are many charities like Kars 4 Kids that will gladly come and pick up the car from your house. They may do a number of things with the car such as auctioning it off or cutting it up and selling the scrap metal to help cover their expenses or provide new materials for underprivileged people. Another benefit you’ll receive when you donate your car is that it is tax deductible. Therefore, if you have an old car you need to be rid of—donate it. You’ll be helping people in need, reducing energy waste, protecting the environment and receive an extra tax deduction!

As more people become aware of the problems that are happening in the environment, more are also taking steps to counteract these issues. There are many things that people are doing today to help the environment, or at least not make as big of a carbon footprint. If you are looking for ways to help the environment, there are a few easy steps that you can take.

Energy Efficient

If you are in the market for new appliances, you may want to consider getting energy efficient appliances. This will not only help you, by making your electric bill smaller, they also help the environment. Being able to cut down on the fossil fuels that are used in our world is essential to helping the environment. Along with energy efficient appliances, there are energy efficient cars. Again, this helps you save money on gas, and also helps the environment.

Go Green

Many of the products that you use on a regular basis are not produced “green”. This means that they take a larger toll on the environment. If you make a point to purchase products that are green, you are making a point to buy things that use recycled materials, or have been produced in a way that uses green practices.

Helping the environment is, in the long run, helping ourselves. There is no reason not to make these changes in your lifestyle. Though you may end up paying a little bit more in the short term – for example, buying an energy efficient washer may cost a little bit more money – you will save money in the long run, and be helping out the environment and the world. These are some easy steps to help out.

You may be aware of the benefits of purchasing recycled products and the benefits of recycling products yourself, but do you know what types of products are made from recycled materials?

Paper is recycled to produce more paper products. This reduces the negative effects on the environment by reducing the number of trees that are needed for producing new paper products. Manufacturers who make products out of recycled paper are also benefitting by using less energy resources to produce their products. Recycled paper products include not only copy paper or writing tablets, but you can find other products manufactured from recycled paper such as CD sleeves, tissues, paper towels, and cardboard binders.

Recycled plastic seems to be one of the most versatile recyclable materials. Recycled plastic is being used in everything from fleece clothing to park benches. There are several companies that are using recycled plastic containers in the production and/or packaging of their products. Terracycle is one such company. They package cleaners and fertilizers in used milk jugs and soda bottles. They have moved on to the creation of handbags and accessories from drink pouches and snack food wrappers as well as producing cork boards from wine corks.

One of the oldest forms of recycle that is still going strong today is the melting down and reusing of glass. Recycled glass items include a variety of products such as tiles, beads, and decorative items for the home. Recycled glass has been used in mosaic and stained glass art for a very long time.

When people talk about recycling in construction, a lot of times the thought comes of the products and materials used in construction that incorporates the use of recycled materials. However, there is another aspect of construction recycling that is just as useful, if not more. Rather than creating new products, try using already existing products.
In new construction or remodeling projects you can save money and know that you are doing your part to protect the environment by recycling used housing materials rather than allowing them to be dumped into our already over-filled landfills. You can also contribute your own unused materials to others or to your local store that deals in reusable construction materials.
One such store is the ReStore, which is owned and operated by the Habitat for Humanity program. These stores provide reusable and surplus building materials and accessories. They accept donations from individuals and companies then sell these items at a small fraction of the cost that it would have been to purchase the same items at retail. The proceeds from their stores help local Habitat for Humanity programs fund construction on Habitat homes in their own communities.
Another way to find materials and products to use when building or remodeling your home is to check local or online classified listings such as freecycle or Craig’s list for items you are in need of. By keeping purchasing used or surplus products and materials during your construction project, you will be doing your part to keep these things out of the waste system and save you some money at the same time.

Do you know what it means to be labeled as a “green business”? This refers to businesses that are finding ways to conserve energy, reduce harmful emissions, or be proactive in their recycling efforts. Being labeled as a “green business” is a good thing. Business that fall under this label show that they are making an effort to protect our environment, reduce waste, and are investing in our future. Many environmentally conscious individuals have made a commitment to only purchase items from or do business with companies that are labeled as “green.”

For quite some time “going green” was the thing to do. However, with some of the difficulties and issues we have seen with the economy there hasn’t been quite as much emphasis placed on this with big businesses lately. Many researchers, however, have continued to work towards more “earth friendly” items and are continuing to develop and market these items.

Bionic Power, Inc. is a company that has found a way to use your body’s energy to power batteries. They have created a device that straps to your leg and will charge portable batteries while you are walking.

Feelgoodz has begun manufacturing “eco-friendly” shoes that use a variety of natural materials and recycled paper to produce these shoes. The materials used to create these eco-friendly shoes include hemp, bamboo, natural rubber, and recycled paper.

One company that is doing a lot to protect our environment and our health is White Wave Foods. This company has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency for their efforts in the use of green power to power their manufacturing plants which produce primarily organic products.

Recycle, recycle, recycle… we hear it all the time. Besides the basics of recycling which includes separating your trash, recycling your plastics and glass products, recycling papers and newspapers, etc. there is another type of recycling that many people are catching onto now. How about getting caught up in the “art” of recycling!

By learning new and creative ways to use things, recycle things, and create new things out of old things; you will not only be helping to preserve our environment and reduce waste, but you will also be saving yourself money in the meantime. Here are some creative ways for you to save money while saving the environment!

Instead of throwing out your bacon drippings, put them in a jar, add food scraps, pop the whole thing in the refrigerator, and when it is set pop it out of the jar and add a string. You now have a bird cake to hang outside!

Don’t just throw out old sheets or torn clothing. Get creative. Make a quilt, use them as dust cloths, or save money on wrapping paper and create unique gift wrap with old pieces of clothing, sheets, or other unusable fabrics.

Stop throwing out all of your empty toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. Save these and reuse them. These cardboard rolls work great for children’s craft projects or as a cable tie for all those lose cords that are always getting in the way.

One of the biggest wastes is food waste. Rather than scrape those scraps and leftovers into the trash, why not compost them? Simply put together all of your food scraps and add them to your compost pile or pour directly on your garden spot to compost during the months when your garden is not in use.

As a society, we don’t do a lot to keep the earth healthy. We tend to pollute the air without realizing it, and use up much more energy than is necessary. We may not feel that any efforts that we do can help save the earth, but you can actually do a lot to help just in your own home.

One of the biggest things that people fail to do is to recycle. Recycling is very important, and the more people that do it, the less money and resources we have to use. If you own a fireplace or use a wood stove, it’s quite simple to recycle paper. If you have old newspapers or boxes that you want to throw away, you can burn them and turn them into heat.

Recycling comes in many forms. There is probably a place in your area that will pay your for scraps of metal, plastic, glass, and other recyclables and they will use these to make new products. Items such as soda cans or bottles, beer bottles, or other recyclable items can turn into a few hundred dollars once you’ve filled a few trash bags full of them.

Many stores sell alternatives to many household items that will save you energy and money. For example, instead of incandescent light bulbs, you may want to buy fluorescent bulbs. The store price is more expensive, but they will last longer and save you money on your electric bill. You can buy appliances that will save energy as well.

Even if you don’t have special light bulbs or appliances to help save energy, simple things you do can help you save energy and money. When you’re not using something, turn it off. Don’t leave your computer on all night. Turn lights off when they aren’t necessary. These simple things will help you save energy and money in the long run.

It’s very important that you improve customer satisfaction if you want your business to continue to do well. Of course, you may already have customers who are quite happy with you, but that doesn’t mean that they have everything that they need, or that there’s nothing you could improve upon. To keep customers truly happy, there are several things that you need to do, including offering services that are specific to them and being more personal with them. They like to feel as though they’re dealing with fellow human beings instead of a faceless company, so be sure to show them the human side of your business. One of the best ways to do that is to respond to questions and concerns that they have about products or services that you offer.

You can save a lot of time and money in the long run by making the effort to improve your customer satisfaction. It may seem like such a small thing, but it’s very important and it can make a huge difference in what customers think about your company. If you use online surveys to find out what your customers think, you’ll also be doing the environment a favor by not mailing out a lot of paper all the time. It’s a great way to protect the planet, and you don’t have to cut down trees or drive around going door to door to get survey information.

Don’t forget that there are a lot of customers out there, and if they already buy from your website it only makes sense to reach out to them online. They already use computers, and they’ve already purchased from you, so just utilize what you already have to make sure that your customers are happy. That way they won’t feel as though what they think doesn’t matter to you and your company.

Basically, a fossil fuel is a fuel that is formed through natural resources such as the decomposition of dead organisms which have been buried. Most organisms that have created a fossil fuel have been there for millions of years. The main sources of fossil fuels that are used to produce energy are petroleum, coal, and natural gas.
Fossil fuels are found in deposits underground left from the decay of plants and animals that are over 300 million years old. These are burned to release the energy that is stored within. This form of energy, however, is non-renewable and releases a large amount of carbon dioxide into our environment.
There are many researchers and scientists who believe that our reliance on fossil fuels have led to the problems we are facing today with global warming. There is some discussion that the damage has already been done. Due to the increasing amount of carbon dioxide that has entered our atmosphere over the past century, even if people were to completely stop burning fossil fuels we would not see the benefits within our lifetime.
Other than the environmental impact that fossil fuels have had on global warming, there are other concerns about the burning of fossil fuels. We are now dealing with more air pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Many different chemicals are released into the air through smoke and soot. The particulate pollution caused by the impurities in coal gets lodged into the lungs causing an increase in respiratory issues.
Although this energy source may have had it’s time and place, it is now time to stop using it. We now know of the dangers it poses on our environment and our health. We need to continue to pursue renewable energy sources that will save our environment for future generations and leave them with clean air to breathe.

Over the past couple of decades we have all been hearing more and more about the importance of recycling. Our children are now taught at very young ages in the public school system about recycling and its importance. Do you know why recycling is important? Do you understand how it helps our environment?

Recycling used products is one of the best ways to help save our environment. It helps to save energy and reduce consumption of natural resources. In fact, recycling can also help to reduce harm to the environment.

How does recycling preserve our environment? One way is by recycling paper, which is made from trees, can reduce our dependence on trees for continued production of paper products. For example, recycling one ton of paper or newspapers is the equivalent of saving 12 trees.

Recycling can save energy by reducing the amount of raw material that is required to be processed. Processing raw materials uses a considerable amount of energy. Some of the most commonly recycled items are aluminum and glass. Recycling these materials can help greatly reduce the amount of pressure put on our energy resources.

Recycling can also reduce pollution. For example, when we do not recycle plastics they sit in the soil as waste and create an increase in water and soil pollution. An effective solution to this problem is simply to recycle as much plastic as possible. During the recycling process of plastics as much material as possible is recovered and used in the manufacturing industry for things such as car bumpers or playground equipment.

In addition to the reduction of soil and water pollution, recycling can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, there have been studies done which show that the effect of recycling on greenhouse gas emissions proved that recycling approximately 35 tons of materials is the equivalent of taking over 22,000 cars off the roads.

You may have noticed that many businesses have now joined the movement to recycle. It may seem that this takes additional time and effort in a large office. However, businesses can benefit greatly from their recycling efforts.

Recycling can save your business money. By renting a smaller dumpster and a recycling bin you could save a significant amount of money over time. Your company may be able to contract with another company who can use your waste products. Your company would save on disposal fees and may even earn some money along the way. You may find, in fact, that other businesses have recycled products that they can trade with you saving even more money.

Recycling can also earn your business money. If you are a large business most likely you have many employees who drink sodas throughout the day. The income you could generate through recycled aluminum cans could become significant over time. When a company uses waste reduction methods and recycle there can be several benefits besides just monetary. Customer and employee relationships improve while reducing energy and conserving natural resources.

Restaurants are now starting to recycle their used fats and oils to be reused for fuel. Many are also taking the initiative to send their left over and unused food to homeless shelters rather than throwing it away. Another way restaurants can reduce waste is by using large dispensers for products rather than small individually wrapped packages and containers.

Although recycling in a business can pose some problems, but many businesses are finally realizing the environmental and economic impact that recycling has. Many are also realizing that they are able to save or even make money when they implement a recycling program in their business. Although, the businesses that seem to benefit the most are those that generate the most trash such as hospitals, grocery stores, large retailers, distribution warehouses, and large office buildings.

Whether your business is small or large, recycling is important. Consider the positive effects your recycling efforts will have on everyone!

Many cities, such as Riverside, California, are promoting green building initiatives, and Riverside Property Management is among the agencies that are spreading the word about the benefits of green building. Green building initiatives are important for local economies. These efforts help to largely reduce energy usage. In addition, wherever green building initiatives are present, it leads to the creation of new jobs, bolstering the local economy.

Riverside Property Management Promotes Green Building Initiatives

Agencies that promote green building initiatives provide local economies a much-needed service. By offering web pamphlets on green building practices, Riverside Property Management increases awareness about these issues. The importance of using lead-free paint, for example, is stressed to reduce the adverse effects of lead on the health of building occupants. Using denim to insulate buildings is promoted as an environmentally friendly way to insulate buildings. The use of recycled steel is promoted to encourage reuse and recycling as much as possible.

Developers are also reminded during the permitting process about other ways to save energy. Installing efficient lighting is important for lowering a resident or business owner’s power bill. Air conditioning systems that are properly installed and monitored are also discussed and are important for guaranteeing an energy efficient building. Roofing systems must be sustainable and specific roofing materials are encouraged to block against leaks and allow for proper ventilation.

The Impact of Green Building on the Local Economy

The efforts of Riverside Property Management and other agencies to educate developers and distribute information are important for the long-term progress and stability of the local economy. Keeping energy costs low and constructing buildings that are sustainable in the long term create economic stability. Additionally, the construction of buildings that comply with green principles requires specialized skills and knowledge. This creates new jobs to be filled by workers who have gained the necessary expertise to construct buildings that are durable and energy conserving.

You know of the benefits of recycling on the environment and do your part to recycle at home. Were you aware that the products you use when building or remodeling your home can be from recycled sources? Who knows, maybe some of that plastic you recycled has come full circle and is being used in your home project!

Plastic is recycled into many different household items. Type 1 plastic which is used in soda, juice, and liquor bottles as well as peanut butter jars and some oil jars can be recycled into carpet fibers and some types of fabrics. Type 2 plastics which is heavier and used for containers used for milk, juice, detergents, bleach and motor oil is recycled into trash containers, lumber substitutes, and other useful items. Type 3 plastic or PVC which is used in windows, doors, shower curtains, and other similar items can be recycled into garden hoses, sewer pipes and fences. Plastic types 4 through 6 which are plastic wrap, food containers, and Styrofoam can also be recycled into items such as plastic wood, carpeting, or furniture.

Paper that has not been contaminated can be recycled into construction products such as cellulose for insulation, cellulose fiberboard, or gypsum board sheeting materials. Glass is another recyclable material that is used in the construction industry. Recycled glass is used in fiberglass insulation, window glazing, and wall and floor tiles.

Aluminum and steel can also be recycled, although they must be recycled separately. Aluminum can be made into window components and flashing material. Steel is recycled into structural framing, framing connectors, and nails.

Other than the materials constructed from recycled items, there is another type of construction recycling that can be done. When building or remodeling a home you may want to consider saving yourself some money as well as contributing to recycling efforts by purchasing used items such as doors, lighting fixtures, cabinets, and more from a construction “recycling” store such as Habitat for Humanity’s Re-Store.

Most people just buy the clothing that they like, and they don’t give any thought to where it came from, who made it, or what it took to create it. While that makes sense, it’s important that you also pay attention to the environment. One person changing his or her clothes-buying habits isn’t going to change the world, but great things will happen if enough people start showing their concern for the environment and only buying things that aren’t going to harm it in any way. Of course, that’s often easier said than done because you might not be sure about the clothing you own and whether it’s environmentally friendly or not.

You can’t do anything about the clothes that you already have, but you can stop buying any future clothing that’s unhealthy for the planet. Consider clothing like Apple Bottoms, that aren’t going to be harmful to mother earth and that also fit well and look great. It’s hard to get more than that from clothing, and you can be proud to wear something that isn’t destroying the planet – and that you can look and feel sexy in, too. Women are fashion conscious, and they are also interested in being comfortable and protecting natural resources. When they can do all of those things at once, it’s a winning situation for everyone involved.

The future of the clothing industry will have to change, too, because there are so many people today who are becoming interested in caring for the planet. If they stop buying clothes from companies that are hurting the planet, the industry will be forced to change or there will be companies that will go under due to their business practices. It’s just the nature of society, and what the market will bear. Consider that the next time you make a clothing purchase.

Decorating your home does not have to be expensive. In fact, you can recycle old items you or people you know have while saving money and making your house look great! How can you accomplish this? Using items you already have and turning them into something new, interesting, and beautiful can be enjoyable. Use old or broken items to make new, refreshed, unique items.

Use a set of old license plates into a set of bookends by simply bending one end of the license plate over a table or countertop. This gives it the end that slides under the books while the rest of the license plate rests against the books. You can leave as-is for a vintage look or spray paint and decorate for a more modernized look.

Create a pet bed out of an old stained jacket, unwanted or worn out jeans, damaged drapes, or even an old quilt or blanket that you no longer use. Simply cut the fabric to the size you want, avoiding any damaged areas. Sew the sides together leaving one side open for turning. You can either leave this open or stitch across lengthwise to create tunnels. Stuff (of course recycling stuffing from old unwanted items if possible). Stitch over open end.

Use vintage aprons, handkerchiefs, clothing, etc. to create one-of-a-kind drapes or valances for your home. Recycling old clothing or other fabric items into new designs is a great way to use these things and maybe even preserve some memories.

Instead of throwing out your old light bulbs when they burn out recycle them by making them into holiday ornaments! Any size or shape of bulb can be used to create interesting and adorable items. For example, a large round bulb such as you would see in a bathroom fixture can be painted with a base coat of white paint. Add some eyes, an orange nose, and a crocked smile. Paint the metal end that is screwed into the fixture with black paint. You now have a snowman!

A lot of people are going green and doing everything that they can to help the environment, including using natural ingredients. When purchasing jewelry, you can continue to help the environment by purchasing all of your jewelry in gold, platinum, or palladium.

A fine jewelry maker, Louis-Ulysse Chopard created the Chopard watch collection in 1869. This metal can be easily cleaned without the use of hazardous jewelry cleaner. In fact, you can use vinegar to clean the diamonds. All you need to do is to place your diamond ring in a small jar and let it soak for at least 20 minutes. Then, rinse the ring under hot water. If it isn’t entirely clean, repeat the process.

Fine jewelry, such as Chopard can be melted down and sold. There are a lot of companies that buy real jewelry and recycle it. Therefore, if you are interested in protecting the environment, and have a piece of Chopard jewelry that you don’t want anymore, you can send it to a company that will buy it from you. In fact, the money that you receive from the company may be enough for you to purchase another piece of fine jewelry.

When you invest in high quality jewelry, you don’t have to be concerned with throwing out metals that rust easily which can pollute the environment. Cheap jewelry doesn’t last long at all. For instance, if a cheap ring breaks, a person can actually leave the ring on the ground which may flow into the water and contaminate our drinking water.

By investing in platinum, gold, or palladium, you don’t have to worry about contaminating the Earth. These metals can easily be recycled or used for safe environmental purposes. There also will not be any small fragments left on the ground because metals are heavy-duty and never leave small particles behind.

There is a lot of talk about recycling, but have you considered the fun aspects of recycling? Recycling does not have to just be about separating your garbage or composting your grass trimmings. There are many fun projects you can do to recycle as well. Finding uses for old items is not only good for the environment but it is also good for your creativity.

Don’t throw out that old worn pair of blue jeans. Instead use them to create a functional work of art. Denim can be used to make Barbie clothing, throw rugs, quilts, a denim diary cover, make an organizer out of a leg from an old pair of jeans, convert those jeans into a skirt, or make a purse out of the pockets. Finding new uses for your old worn out blue jeans is not only practical but it can also be a lot of fun.

What about those old CDs or ancient vinyl records? You can create some interesting and useful items with these. You can recycle your old CDs to hold your mail by making a letter holder with them. Use them to make a cute snowman. With a little heat and some ingenuity you can turn an old vinyl record into a bowl!

You can even use items such as broken dishes to create art. Use the broken shards of a dinner plate to create mosaic art. This can be added to clay flowerpots to dress them up or even create a mosaic design on an old table top that needs some added interest. For that old teacup and saucer set that doesn’t match anything else you have, instead of throwing it out turn it into a stylish lamp.

There is no limit on the things you can do with items you would have normally thrown out. If you do not feel you are creative enough to come up with ideas of your own, spend some time on the internet searching for crafts you can make with recycled items. Use your imagination. You may be surprised by what you can come up with!

The process of Green Marketing can help improve the environment as they involve processes where products or a service sold keeping in mind the benefit of the environment. If businesses want to attract new customers, they can include this practice of Green Marketing into their business plans by recycling paper for printing purposes, packaging, using soy-based ink and so on.

During the Gallop Poll, in the year of 2006, studies have shown that 77 percent of Americans believe that they need to play an important role themselves in order to improve the environment. People have taken this initiative by using environmental friendly products and services.

Incorporating green business practice into business can give a higher edge over others in terms of competition. While marketing, highlight on the points that involve green business practices such as steps taken to decrease pollution, recycling materials.

Try to highlight on points such as strategy used for conservation of resources and bringing in the latest technology to improve energy efficiency.

Businesses can further follow green business practices by using the latest technology. Travelling increases carbon footprint, so if a business uses technology and holds virtual meetings instead of travelling to the place, then this can save the cost of travelling and also reduce carbon footprint. However, if it is necessary to travel, then use of carbon-offsets can help reduce environmental pollutions.

Another strategy used for green marketing purposes is by reducing the waste of paper going in for paperless offices.

However, while using green initiative, be honest about the processes used when making the products and services.

A website can also be of great use for keeping customers informed about the latest products and services. Therefore, encouraging customers to become partner and providing them with helpful links can bring in a major difference to the business. If green marketing is incorporated, then it can never fail to build long lasting relationships with present customers as bring new customers.

Loss of jobs and cuts to the working hours has left many people of North America in a terrible situation. It is becoming extremely difficult for them to even pay their bills and keep up their homes. However, the area of network marketing has huge opportunity for income. Nevertheless, this is an overlooked opportunity.

Direct selling involves directly selling through representatives. Often this leads to offer products at low prices, work as per their own comfortable time.

The investment, plans, fees, and above all, the monthly expenses required for a traditional business keep most people away from starting their own business. However, network marketing allows people to start their own business with very little money.

People think network-marketing companies deal with only products like jewelry or candle. However, all types of products can market through network marketing. It can range from clothing, jewelry to educational items, and telephone and internet services.

Hundreds of companies are members of Direct Selling Association and they strictly abide by the ethics of business. The number of members in US is higher than that of Canada.

Starting a network marketing Business is rather easy. All you have to do is, visit a DSA organization, choose a company website, and become their representative by following their instructions.

It will be better if you can check out the products and services offered by the company in your city, before joining the company.

Finally, if you join a network marketing company, it teaches you how to sell. This is an art, which many people are not born with, but excel in the field when they learn. One thing that comes in is, in a network marketing business, you do not get involved directly with business, but is a part of a team with whom you can share strategies and ideas.

Thus, network marketing can help those who want to establish themselves as a businessperson without getting directly involved in a business.

It feels great when you are your own boss and you are working from the comfort of your own home. This is just another way to ensure that carbon emissions cut by reducing the frequency of your traveling. You can make your home office go green by adopting the policies below. Check them out.
First, you can start by using recycled papers and packaging materials. These are materials not extensively high priced and are available in office supply stores.
Studies have shown that paper is the largest component that fills up land waste and home offices are very much responsible for this. So reduce the amount of paper daily used by your office. Adopt measures such as decrease the margin of the documents and use both sides of the paper for prints. This measure will reduce the use of paper to half.
Next, you can opt to use natural light during the day and use CFL bulbs during the evenings. You can put your work desk near a window to avoid switching on of lights. Do the major part of your work during the daytime as at that time, you can use natural sunlight. This can largely reduce the carbon footprints.
You can also consider going green by opting in for old furniture. It means that nothing new taken from the environment and it is cheap. This is just another tip if you are considering improving the environment.
If you are considering buying a new laptop or computer, you can first check out if you can improve the performance of your old item by any way. However, if it becomes essential to discard the item, try to contact a dealer who handles e-waste and make sure that your item is disposed properly. Also, make sure that your hard disk does not contain any material that may be hazardous.
If you consider these small tips and implement them, then this can bring about a major change to the environment.

Companies wanted to portray themselves as Green these days and the truth hides in the thousand dollar marketing. According to Jerry Stifelman, founder of “The Change” reinstated in a conference, “truth is the best tool”
The eighth annual conference of Green Business Network held at San Francisco, California, attended by small and medium businesses to learn the best way to promote green business.”Rarely is anything more seductive than the truth. Branding is making the most of assets.” Said Jerry Stifelman and added that customer relationship is all about doing, feeling and thinking.
Branding is all about building trust. It does not depend on the logo or the tagline of the company. A customer trusts the company for its truth. A company’s passion is all about the basic truth, which strengthens the customer relationship. “People understand and accept patterns” says Stifelman. According to him being authentic, consistent, passionate and truthful are essential for branding.
The green companies should be passionate about their green activities and gain more control over the branding. The story telling about going green is common nowadays. Truthful story telling on the green efforts and the strategic planning is always helpful in sharing the green business for the searching world. Therefore, companies need to talk about their green activities to the customers in a more endearing manner.
His company The Change has mission to make the world more sustainable, equitable and less corporate place. He also worked as brand strategist with companies like MTV, Banana Republic, and Sun Microsystems, to get the greener side of marketing and good-for-the-world branding.

Customer perception decides on what reality and branding is. All the truth depends on building a good and reputed brand. This shows off when marketing a product. Finally, a brand becomes memorable when following the green policies if there is truth in it.

Office contains boss, colleagues, customers subordinates and many other persons too, but the common interest of these personnel is to maintain a healthy environment in the office. The surroundings of the office make the mind of the person fresh or lazy. Greening plays an important role in the performance of the employee and employer. Here are some tips to maintain the lively culture of office.
Using the optimum energy in the office is very essential. Electricity is very important for the productivity of the employees but extra electricity may lead to the bore the environment of the office and greenery may help to use the electricity at the optimum level. Natural sunlight increases the health of the people and office both. Saving the electricity is the obligation of every person in the office or working environment.
Plastic bags are always helpful for shopping and carrying the things. Shopping bags, papers and many other plastic items in our daily use can be recycled and organizations put the recycling plant in the office for recycling these shopping bags, and papers and used plastic items.
Always use the product that has the recycling logo mentioned. It may include products that are more environments friendly. Environment friendly products increase the image of the products, when recycled. Every employee can save the energy and environment from global warming, for example, they may use the public transport instead of their own transport. This practice may minimize the global warming and healthy environment.
The responsibility of protecting the environment is to shift within the company. The project of environment is to rotate because then only everyone can know about the importance of the environment and Greening.
If every office starts saving the energy Greening, it will make the environment like paradise. Every person can play a vital role in protecting the environment.

The much talked about “Going Green” is not at all difficult even when it comes to practicing it in your office. If you are a little careful with your day-to-day activities then this can be an easy step for you in the green. There are several advantages when you have a workplace that focuses on a greener environment and result in saving your expenses and reduction in the waste as well.

Reduce in the consumption of energy levels at your work place. You may simply customize the setting on your computers and several other devices to consume lesser energy or simply shut them off when not in use. In addition, the standby mode tends to consume more power when compared to the computer in use. Switch off certain peripheral devices when not in use. Switching off the lights when not required and optimizing the air conditioning levels will also help in considerable reduction of consumption.

You can even have your going green attitude with your dressing styles as well. Go for clothes made of organic or recycled fibers. It would be better if you could avoid clothes that need dry cleaning and so on.
Try to have a makeover in your workspace. You could do this in endless ways, starting with the furniture, lighting and fresh air. You can go for furniture made from recycled materials; also, you can replace the incandescent bulbs with fluorescent ones and choose from LED desk lamps that comparatively assumes very less energy. Also, make room for good ventilation and use low-VOC paints and other materials that would contribute in keeping you and your employees healthy. Adding a few live plants may also add charm to the going green atmosphere at your workspace.
You can also use reusable containers to bring lunch to work and probably this is the greenest and healthiest way.

An office generates non-recyclable waste. It can range from papers to plastics to Styrofoam. It is not only about using copiers and about monitors while going green. It is something more than that. Offices can prevent this by taking some steps.
Fix a small team in the office to see about the disposal and management of waste. A campaign “Lights Out” which began a few years ago aimed at offices to turns out the lights after the last late worker leaves.
Listed below are some steps to make office green.
Use recycled paper in offices to go green in office. Recycled paper is getting cheap and offices may get a grant if they adhere to green business policy.
Make sure not to use Styrofoam or plastics in your offices. To mark this change, offer free tea and coffee services.
Buy and store mugs in office kitchen putting the company logo on the mug.
Buy some phosphate free eco friendly detergent for office kitchen.
Go in for recycled battery and recycling of ink toner.
Recycled bins is to place in lunch halls, cafeteria and even besides individual desks. They are in use for throwing papers, metals and glass.
Use email for official purposes. Whereas paper documents cannot ban, email can save paper, ink and electricity.
Buy ink cartridges that can be recycled. It costs 75 percent less than the disposable ink cartridges.
Use cornstarch-based packing chips.
With offices that are facing problems to go green, offering prizes can help. Offer prizes to the department with lowest carbon footprint. Try to sort out the problems in a fun way.
One who is considering going green and who is a motivator could sign up the office to provide cash prizes for environmental awards. The office team should communicate with others and make changes.

Many homeowners have already turned to eco-friendly living but to be efficient, their efforts need some support from businesses. Companies have to introduce a number of green innovations, in order to proclaim that they are environmentally friendly. These are the basic steps that have to be undertaken.

Dealing with old equipment
Computers are a dangerous type of waste that takes hundreds of years to disappear. Recycling old computers is one viable option.

Another option is available, as well. Donate all types of electronic equipment. This way, computers will continue to be use while the company could benefit from a tax deduction.

Dealing with office paper
Paper is probably the office supply used in largest quantities. Used office paper thrown in the garbage instead of being recycled is not at all a good practice.

Recycling office paper is beneficial, as new products derive from the waste that a company produces. Everybody knows that the production of paper leads to the cutting of trees and the release of harmful chemicals in the atmosphere.

Businesses will be even more green-oriented if they opt for the purchase of recycled paper.

The simplest way to promote good recycling policies is the provision of paper recycling bins. These will serve as a reminder for employees who would otherwise throw away used paper. It will also be easy and efficient to award employees who have done most for the company’s recycling program.

To take it a step further, the company can educate its employees and transfer the incentive from the office environment to their own homes.

Increasing number of individuals is growing eco-conscious. A company that understands and promotes green practices will gain the opportunity to attract these individuals through green business marketing techniques.

A business will also see significant benefits from the introduction of a recycling program. Many owners will be willing to adopt such business methods, once they become aware of the corporate advantages involved.

It is a preconceived notion that businesses are an enemy of the environment. This is not true. Businesses can join the efforts of the individuals to lessen the carbon footprint, save water, energy and in this way improve the environment of the planet.

Make sure that businesses use Energy Star rated appliances and products as they save energy. Look for Energy Star logo on computers, printers and copy machines as they save energy. Do not keep computers or electronic appliances in sleep mode as while in the sleep mode they consume a little energy. Switch it off completely. Printers and monitors consume a large amount of energy. So keep individual monitors and shut down when kept idle. This will help save a lot of energy. Try to use laptops in office as they consume 90 percent less energy than desktops.

Very few businesses can do without lights. Instead of using incandescent lights, use CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) or LED (light emitting diode). These lights save about 75 to 90 percent energy. When not in the room, use automatic sensors to shut off the lights and save energy. Use as much daylight as possible.

Besides, energy conservation, businesses should also stress on water conservation. This is a very important aspect of human life. Check out for leaks frequently as this waste gallon of water and energy. Tank less water heaters reduce storage costs and wastes in businesses without a great need for hot water, while lowering a water heater’s temperature setting also saves energy. If installing faucets and urinals in toilets, go in for water saving equipments. If you use landscaping in your business, then you can go in for xeriscaping. Xeriscaping recommended by Environmental Protection Agency. This involves using native plants that require less watering and maintenance. You can also use gray water for irrigation of plants.

In these hard economic times, the last thing that you would want is high bills. It is evident that many businesses are looking for ways to cut on costs be it in payrolls, or simple monthly bills. When you think of cost cutting then you may be tempted to think of it in terms of something big like retrenchment of personnel, among others, yet the truth of the matter is, you may be overlooking potentially great means of cost cutting hidden in small bills. One of the best ways of cost cutting is water conservation. As warned earlier, this might seem like a waste of time, but the truth is that, it is a good start towards a profitable end.
In a report by the U.S Department of Energy (DOE), it says that a company can save up to 60% on water use on a monthly basis and the only thing you need to do is, invest more on energy-efficient fixtures such as, the use of faucets, and having urinals with a lower flow rate among others. You need to go for energy-efficient fixtures that only allow the flow rate of less than 2.5 gallons per minute.
You ought to invest more on tank less water heaters, for unlike other heaters, this particular one does not need standby water storage. You will also save much more money by reducing the water heater temperatures during the hot months like summer season.
According to the U.S. DOE, having a facet with a small leak can make you lose hundreds of water gallons on a monthly basis. Therefore, it is of great importance that you regularly check for leaks. You can simply do this by turning off all the gadgets that use water and check the water meter, if the dial moves then you have a leak somewhere. You need to have that leak found and sealed if you seriously seek to experience substantial decrease in water bills.

Being a small business owner, you may be fascinated about the fact that you keep your business surroundings environment friendly. If you follow the below guidelines, apart from cutting down on energy costs, you can also keep your environment green.
Instead of having a single printer, opt for two printers. Use one printer for two sided papers, whereas use the other for taking routine printouts. Advise your employees to dump in the used papers in a separate box, rather than throwing those away into a waste bin. At times, additional or draft sheets that are printed can still good for re- usage. Print outs can be taken on the other side of such sheets.
Ensure that you place an empty box next to the Xerox machine so that your employees can dump in additional copies that are not required. These kinds of sheets can incise into halves or quarters, which later can use as note papers.
Enforce a mandatory rule that every employee should switch off devices such as computers, printers, Xerox machines and other office devices that are not used every moment or at the end of the day.
In storage or break rooms, use automatic light switches so that they turn off after office hours.
Do not allow employees to have their own electrical appliances such as toasters, ovens, coffee maker etc. Instead, these kind of devices should be switched off and stored away during nighttime, when not in use.
Offering a mug with a spoon as a present to your employees can reduce or completely get rid paper cups.
Make sure that you buy only environment friendly paper items for office usage
To retain the heat or coldness in your office, instruct your staff to open and close blinds as and when necessary.
Switch off lights used unnecessarily so that you can cut down on energy costs.

During the cold wintertime, to keep yourself and your home warm, energy bills can go high and leave you financially wretched. So listed here are some tips that will help you save energy and money that goes out on your bills.

Seal the drafts of your doors and windows.
Make sure that there are no drafts in the doors and windows of your house. If there is any, seal them using extra layer of transparent sheet on the glass windows. This will make your house energy efficient.

Insulate your house.
Add insulation in your room to prevent heat loss and preserve the heat. Check throughout the house and prevent heat loss.

Seal the ducts that distributes heat
Clean and change the heating filters of your heating system regularly to avoid leakage of ducts. This makes the total process of heating and cooling more energy efficient.

Use of energy efficient gadgets
Make sure to use Energy Star qualified gadgets as they reduce the energy consumed and hence the bills reduce drastically.

Use energy efficient bulbs
Replace your old incandescent lights with CFL bulbs. CFL bulbs is very much energy efficient and saves you a lot of money compared to incandescent lights.

Save bills on water
You can save bills on water by reducing the temperature of water slightly, using warm water instead of hot for your shower and washing clothes.

Get tax credits
If you use energy efficient appliances and products for your home, then you can earn tax credits up to $1500.

However, do not overuse than what is required. Studies have shown that people who have shifted to use of energy efficient products end up using more energy than needed. Make sure that you do not fall into this category. Use only the amount that is necessary for you.

If you are trying to improve the environment, then being a consumer of eco friendly products is the best way to live a greener lifestyle. Switch to the purchase of products offered by companies that practice green business. This way you can support the green business initiative.

A way to switch to eco friendly purchases may start from Fair Trade coffee and tea. When an eco friendly product, which worked under fair labor practice, given fair price, and used for growth and development of the environment, then the product certify as Fair Trade.

These eco friendly products such as coffee, tea, chocolates may be a little expensive than the regular products, but this additional expense made by the consumers is contributed to the improvement of the environment and those who worked towards achieving this eco friendly product.

Studies have shown that the textile industry uses 132 million tons of coal per year. This can affect the environment miserably. Traditionally water and chemicals used to grow cotton and the energy used to create synthetic fabrics can be very harmful to the environment. The huge amount of water used for finishing the process makes a lot of waste.

Making a transition to eco friendly textiles such as using organic cotton blankets, bamboo shirts, hemp jeans, can improve the environment and reduce the wastage of the society.

You can also shift your office environment to an eco friendly environment. Instead of using the age-old ink and paper, you can shift to non-toxic inks, recycled pens and paper. These types of eco friendly products are available at online shops like Dolphin Blue, O’Bon, and The Ultimate Green Store. So go green in your workplace by making a transition towards using eco friendly products.

Therefore, the products you use in everyday life can bring about a major change to the environment. By using eco friendly products, you are supporting the green business initiatives and passively helping to improve the environment.

It is a preconceived notion that “going green” in your office or business is extremely costly. However, this is not at all true.
Now days, more and more businesses are coming into this zone as it is proved that going green is cost effective and the initial costs can be recovered quickly provided the green strategies are implemented properly.
The first and foremost step is to identify the area where most of the energy in your business is lost. It may be in the front door due to variable temperatures or in the computers that do not shut down automatically and continue to run for long hours. It may also be in the bathroom where lights switch on throughout the day or in the hallways, in the copy and supply room or in an AC used by office colleagues.
Once you have identified the area of loss, next is the course of action. If the loss relates to lighting, then replace incandescent lights with Energy Star certified CFL bulbs. CFL bulbs reduce consumption of energy up to 75% and lasts longer than incandescent lights.
However “going green” is such a policy that cannot be achieved alone. It can implement if the other colleagues participate in the initiative actively and thus a change brought about collectively.
To install automatic sinks and motion-sensor lighting in the restrooms may be very costly, but there is an alternative option. Companies can use 5 to 10-minute automatic timer wall switch in conference rooms, restrooms and supply rooms.
Now it depends on whether you are the primary monitor of your energy usage, or there is someone else on observing your usage. However, if you see that after implementing the green policies if your energy consumption has declined, then you can invite the building manager to take a tour round your office.
Companies may undertake these just a few “green” policies to improve the environment while they are on a budget.

Most people think of an easy home-based business that could help their living. Gardening is one of the most recommended to start a home- based business. Let us say you know how to gardening, if not a passion at least you know how, this is a big help for you to start a small business without spending too much for capital. You will just invest for seeds and some spaces to start your business
In line with that, you will not use your own money to meet the client’s requirements. All you have to do is ask for at least 10-25% deposit to buy the needed materials in gardening.
Look at these ideas:
Personal Gardener: There are people who are gifted- or have a green thumb. Plant flowers for others or for yourself and sell the stock.
Windowsill or Balcony: There are individuals who have no backyard or garden but love to have plants in their balcony. Use the deposit to buy materials- seeds and containers.
Restaurant Produce Provider: All restaurants are in need of vegetables. You can sell them your veggies products.
Tabletop Gardens: Those who are leaving in apartment can also have plants in their houses. Provided they should have basement or attics to create portable and transportable garden.
Office Garden: Go to different offices to market your small garden and provide them plants that are in use in designing their office.
Herb Specialist: You should know many people believe the influence of healing of herb plants. So most likely, they will give a catch to your business.
Houseplant Care: There are people who are fond of plants yet but who cannot take care of it. Offer to look after their plants while outside the house.
Flower Producer. Special event flowers are in demand. See to it your flowers are in design so that your customer will keep on coming back.

You cannot help to improve the environment by following green business initiatives only in your personal life. If you want a greener environment, you have to adopt the policies in work place too. It may sound tough to achieve a greener environment, but it is quite easy. To begin with, offices can use eco friendly furniture, products, and accessories and so on.

When buying chairs, you may go in for Steelcase’s Think Chair. This is a recyclable product and is made of 41%-recycled materials.

When considering desks, here also go in for eco friendly products. Desks made from recyclable products like rubber, plastic or recycled newsprint, cardboard fiber or core used to achieve the greener environment. Companies like EcoWork and Dirtt offer these type of eco friendly products for office purposes. They offer a wide range of range of products to choose from and their products are very customizable to suit the office requirements.
Even in the case of electronic items, offices can go green. The motherboards and circuit boards used by the offices reuse into clipboards, binders, mouse pads and other office supplies. Hence, it says that a Green Office is the supplier of Green products. People have a preconceived notion that eco friendly are very expensive than the regular products. However, this is false. It may cost a little more than regular products, but the contribution you are doing to the environment by adopting green policies is priceless.
Finally, for some companies such as law firms and doctors, it is necessary to use papers. They cannot go electronic. In that case, these companies can then hire a recycling company who can come and recycle the papers they use. Also, when ink cartridges get empty, go in for a refill of the ink cartridge instead of buying a brand new cartridge. These can bring about a major positive change to the environment.

Water is a very precious and limited resource. If you ever think how much water we waste in our daily lives, then we can feel the shortage that our next generations can face. Measures should be taken to prevent the loss of water. Hair salons, restaurants and other businesses that use a lot of water everyday should take care not to waste any water and use only that which is necessary.
Businesses should start water conservation methods and appoint a water conservation officer for maintenance and operation of water wastage.
The appointed will be in charge of researching the markets and in installing the latest products that use less water and are certified Energy Star and Water Sense products.
Moreover, the appointed officer would also be responsible for communicating with the employees and ensuring that the other office members actively participate in the water saving program. Water saving program is a collective effort that is to be achieve by ideas of all members who want to save water genuinely.
One of the major areas where there is lots of water wastage is through leaks. Businesses should frequently monitor their infrastructure of their operations. Check and repair even a small leak or damage.
Businesses can also save water by installing water conservation equipments like flush valves on toilets. Further, they can go in for dry floor cleaning or vacuum cleaning instead of mopping or wet carpet cleaning.
Another area where lot of water is wasted is landscaping. Check that there is no leakage in the irrigation system and that the watering system points towards the plants and not the sidewalks.
In addition, you can save water by planting trees that have roots deep into the soil. These types of plants consume less water as they do not need water daily.
Therefore, businesses should strive to teach their workforce on how to conserve water as water is a valuable resource that will help in the forth-coming years.

When you are adopting the green policies in your office, make sure that you decorate your office in green attire too. There are many options to choose. You can incorporate many eco friendly items into the decor of your office.
The first and foremost thing that you can do is to paint your office with eco friendly non-toxic paint that contains no VOC or very low amount VOC. Companies such as Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore also offer the option of “green paint.”
VOC, known as Volatile Organic Compounds that are contained in traditional paints can harm the environment and its surroundings even after years of painting.
Next, you can go in for artwork for your office décor. Decorating your office space with motivational poster or anonymous pictures will not show if you are going with the green policy. To decorate your office space with the approach of going green, you can commision the work to local artists. This is a part of green policy and by this; you can keep money in your community.
The use of rugs is another way to make your office décor go green. You can opt in for eco friendly rugs made of non-synthetic wool or recycled soda bottles. This is a fair practice to go green with the office décor.
Another way to go green with your office décor is adding plants wherever you can. Plants not only add green color to the surroundings but also purify the air in your office area.
Marginata, Peace Lily, Janet Craig, Chinese Evergreen, English Ivy, Corn Plant, Mother-in- law’s tongue, Pot Mum, Bamboo Palm, and Warneckii are some of the plants that can be beneficial if planted in your office space. They can render a lot to change the image of your office as well as improve the environment and you surrounding work place.

A lot of paper and materials are wasted particularly when mailing gifts, packaging items and so forth. Items created from polythene such as packing tape, bubble wrap, and Styrofoam package fillers, and packing peanuts are the worst to the environment. Going green rather than using polythene and Styrofoam can decrease waste and pollution.
Even through polythene is sometimes recycled to make bubble wrap. Again, bubble wrap, if made from cardboard or crimped paper makes an eco friendly product.
Cornstarch used for making biodegradable versions of packing peanuts. Truck rental businesses, office supply shops, moving and expert packaging supplier’s supplies eco bubble wraps and peanuts.
Natural Rubber, made from rubber tree is a biodegradable product. This environmentally friendly packing tape used to seal boxes and cartons supplied from office stores.

Before going in to buy eco friendly products, seek the materials that are available and find creative ways to reuse them. Below are some ways of how you can use waste items.

If waste papers are packed densely into boxes, they can serve as good fillers.
Make a padded box using plastic shopping bags prior to recycling them.
Use towels for wrapping up materials that break away easily.
Try to use bedding to cushion electronics or Knick Knacks instead of packing pillows and blankets separately.
If you put smaller breakables inside padded items, then that will keep them more protected.
Use old newspapers instead of buying newsprint that is plain white.
It is better to utilize old sheets or use a multiuse tarp, than buying a toss away mattress bags made from plastic.

Hence, if you use household items creatively for packaging, then it can reduce waste. But if it is necessary to buy packaging materials, go in for eco friendly products that will help reduce waste and filling up of bins and landfills.
