About Us

Mission

To protect the environment and preserve the quality of life in progressive public policies, the enforcement of laws and the active participation of people.

The Importance of Our Mission:

If we want clean lakes and rivers, safe drinking water, abundant wildlife and unspoiled natural beauty, we have to stop pollution at its source. Pollution doesn’t stop at the borders of a state park or wildlife preserve. So we don’t buy nature preserves or focus on individual endangered species. We applaud those efforts, but they’re not enough.

To defend our nation’s environment, we must make sure current environmental laws are strongly implemented and enforced, fight efforts to weaken pollution standards, and enact tough new protections.

Through broad-based coalitions that include conservationists, sporting groups, business, labor and health groups, the Decade strives to preserve and improve environmental quality for all who call America home.

Vision

Clean Air

* Air is safe to breathe;
* rapid transit and clean air replace traffic jams and choking smog;
* windmills and clean, renewable energy and energy conservation replace polluting, coal-burning power plants.

Clean Water

* Lakes and rivers are returned to their pristine conditions, no longer oxygen-robbed and algae-filled;
* fish are safe to eat;
* pesticide-free agriculture is commonplace;
* drinking water is safe to drink.;
* our lakes, rivers and wetlands are safe from dangerous metallic mining.

Healthy Community

* Our inner cities are healthy, safe places to live;
* our native biodiversity is restored and maintained over large areas of undisturbed wilderness;
* transportation solutions are not always four or six lane highways.

Green Business
* Business activities no longer degrade the environment or harm our health;
* products that minimize waste are more price competitive and demanded by consumers.
